The
Bible Is The Voice of God
Heb
1:1-2 states, God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in
time past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken
to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom
also He made the worlds. We learn from this passage…the inspiration of
both the Old & New Testaments, that God has spoken; God inspired the
prophets of the OT and that the OT would give way to the New Testament.

The New Testament
The New Testament has
revealed that we are no longer under a tutor, that is the Old Testament
(Gal.3:23-29). However, it is right to read the Old Testament in order
that we might learn from history (Rom 15:4). Our NT begins with the book
of Matthew & ends with the book of Revelation. These 27 books are
divided into 4 natural divisions. Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John describe
the lifetime of Jesus. The events begin with His birth, and end with a
description of His death. It is the purpose of these books to establish
faith. Come Join Us. 533-0128

The
Christian Age
The
third and final period of history and the one we live in is referred to
as the Christian Age: Acts 2 to Revelation 22; from the descent of the
Holy Spirit upon the 12 disciples to the death of the Apostle John. This
age continues and will continue until the end of time. The emphasis of
the Christian age is centered on One man, Jesus Christ. Heb 1:1-2,
“God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past…in
these last days spoken to us by His Son…” Join us for worship at
9:30 AM on Sundays.
Carlos
Aguilar, Evangelist 12-15-2001
The Jewish Age
Another division in history
is the Jewish Age: Exodus 20 to Acts 2, from the giving of the law to
the descent of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. During this period of
history the emphasis is centered on One Nation. The one nation is
Israel. The law delivered by Moses to lead the people to Christ (Gal
3:24-25).
Come and learn more about the Bible with Christians who meet at 2020
Pine Street. Sun AM at 9:30 followed by Bible class and Wed even. at
7:00 PM or check out our website at www.churchofchristoroville.com.

The
Patriarchal Age
Since the Bible is written for everybody to
understand why is it so hard for some people to understand it? If we are
to understand the Bible (and we can), we should understand the divisions
of history within the Bible, so that the Bible will make sense to us
today. The first is The Patriarchal Age: Genesis 1 to Exodus 20, from
creation to the giving of the law. During this period of history the
emphasis is centered on ONE family--The one family is Abraham and his
descendents. They consist of: Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
Carlos
Aguilar, Evangelist 12-1-2001
Understanding
The Bible
Is
it possible for us to understand the Bible? We may never understand
everything alluded to in the Scriptures. We don't need to. We can
understand what the Bible tells us to believe and do. We can understand
God's will by studying the Bible. For example, The Bereans:
"searched the Scriptures daily whether those things were so"
(Acts 17:11). They checked out everything with their own scriptures.
This worked. It will work for you. Study with us. We meet at 2020 Pine
Street at 9:30 AM on Sundays followed by Bible classes for all ages.
Carlos
Aguilar, Evangelist 11-24-2001
How
to study the Bible
"How
do I study the Bible?" Does this sound familiar? A failure to
understand the Bible correctly is the greatest cause of "Religious
confusion" among people. When you study, remember and apply these
rules for a correct interpretation of God's Word. Here’s a couple. The
interpretation must be Lexical. One must know the meaning of words,
their development historically, and their use in the passage under
consideration. This can be acquired through the use of a good Bible
Dictionary. Pay attention to Grammar. When reading The Bible: keeping in
mind who is speaking and who is being addressed.
Carlos
Aguilar, Evangelist 11-17-2001
Some
Thoughts From Proverbs
Continuing
some thoughts from Proverbs. In the first 9 chapters of Proverbs one
will find 15 admonitions to the youth for guidance in everyday living.
In addition, the person who is seeking a spouse to marry ought to
consult the Bible for such answers to problems like: marriage, divorce,
How to be a Husband, Wife, How to be a Father, Mother. As has been said,
"The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge" (Proverbs
1:7). We at the church of Christ are seeking the Lord's wisdom and
instruction. Will you join us?
Carlos
Aguilar, Evangelist 11-10-2001
The
Fear Of The Lord
Solomon
wrote, "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: Fools
despise wisdom and instruction" (Prov 1:7). This one little verse
is the key to understanding the Book of Proverbs. Furthermore, this one
little verse is the key to understanding God! If you are searching for
meaning of life, or direction, or maybe even a husband or wife, look to
The Bible for the answers of such questions. The Bible gives the
answers. Come visit us at the church of Christ on Pine Street. Sun AM
9:30 for worship followed by Bible classes. 533-0128.
Carlos
Aguilar, Evangelist 11-3-2001
Heaven
In
the vast pages of Scripture is a description of Heaven. We can read and
learn three things about heaven. First, Heaven is a Promise. This
promise is for a prepared people who make their plans Now. "ln
My Father's house are many dwelling places...for I go to prepare a place
for you" (John 14:2). Second, Heaven is Peaceful. There will be
rest for the weary and heavy-laden. Third, Heaven is Permanent. Where we
spend eternity is determined by how we live today. Join us for worship
and study. Worship 9:30 AM, Bibles classes follow.
Carlos
Aguilar, Evangelist 10-27-2001
Hope
Death
is a certainty for us all. Only the time of death is uncertain. What
hope do you have for after death? "It is appointed unto men once
to die, but after that the judgment" (Hebrews 9:27). The Bible
is filled with precious promises for those "who die in the
Lord" (Revelation 14:13). Death is not the end. The grave is not
our goal. The first concern of the church of Christ is about your hope
and ours. We want to go to heaven. We want to see you go to heaven. Join
us for worship! Carlos M. Aguilar, 533-0128

The Treasure That
Lasts
We live in a world that
thrives on money, possessions and power. Jesus teaches that all of these
things will be destroyed. Just what kind of treasure will last? Jesus
says the true treasure is the one that involves spiritual things. He
says, "Do not lay up for yourselves treasures upon the earth,
where moth and rust destroys…But lay up for yourselves treasures in
heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys…for where your treasure
is, there will your heart be also." (Matt. 6:19-21) Where is
your treasure? Where is your heart? Come visit us at the church of
Christ!
Carlos
Aguilar, Evangelist 10-13-2001
The Bereans
The text reads In Acts
17:11: 'Now these were more noble minded than those in Thessalonica,
for they received the word with great eagerness, examining the
Scriptures daily, to see whether these things were so." Three
things stick out in this verse: (1) They had a readiness of mind to
study; (2) they examined the Scriptures for themselves; (3) they let the
Bible have the final word. Are you willing to let God's Word be the
final authority? We invite you to come and join us at the church of
Christ. Carlos Aguilar, 533-0128. www.churchofchristoroville.com

The
Parable Of The Good Samaritan
The
parable of the Good Samaritan found in Lk 10:30-37 reveals how we ought
to treat one another. The lesson has three classes of people: Robbers,
Priests, and a Good Samaritan. What can we learn from the three? The
Robbers: What is yours is mine, and I will take. The Priests: What is
mine is mine and I will keep it. The Good Samaritan: What is mine is
yours and I will give it. The Good Samaritan proved to be a neighbor.
Furthermore, Jesus said, "Go and do likewise" (vs. 37). Join
us for worship!
Carlos
Aguilar, Evangelist 9-16-2001
Bible Baptism
When
Jesus and His apostles commanded baptism the word did not mean
sprinkling or pouring. Bible baptism is defined as "immersion"
in water for the "forgiveness of your sins" (Acts 2:38). When
the Gospel was preached at Jerusalem two thousand years ago many asked
the question: "What must I do to be saved?" The answer was and
still is "...Repent, and let each of you be baptized in the name of
Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins" (Acts 2:38). Join us
for worship and study of the Bible.
Carlos
Aguilar, Evangelist 9-9-2001
Not
"Reverend" Please
May
I kindly request that you not call me "Reverend"? Where in the
Bible can you read of "Reverend Paul"? Where in the Bible does
one find, "The Holy Father Peter"? There is no Bible authority
for such titles. In fact, Jesus plainly taught against their use (Mt
23:9). My work is that of preaching, but I am human just like everyone
else. Paul said: "For we preach not ourselves, but Jesus Christ as
Lord..." Christ is everything. I am nothing. I just want to help
people find Christ through the Gospel. Join Us at 2020 Pine Street.
Carlos
Aguilar, Evangelist 9-2-2001
Will
All Men Be Saved?
It
is God's desire that all men would come to Jesus Christ. However, not
all men are willing to submit their life to the Master, and obey His
will. Jesus made this clear while preaching in chapters 5-7 of Matthew,
"Not everyone who says to Me, Lord, Lord will enter the kingdom of
heaven; but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven"
(Matt. 7:21). God can and will save all who submit to His will. Bible
preaching and teaching at 2020 Pine St, Carlos Aguilar, 533-0128.

Book of Acts is the hub of the New Testament. Matthew, Mark, Luke and
John were written to produce in Jesus Christ, as the Son of God. The
Book of Acts is written to produce obedience to the faith that the

Book of Acts is filled with examples of men and women who had become
obedient to the faith. Come learn more about God with us. We meet at

Can
God Change?
Because,
we are human, it is hard to think of someone not changing. Change is the
word of today. Everything and everybody is expected to change in our
world- But, consider for a moment, that God never has, nor will He ever
change! Notice: Ps 102:27, “But You are the same, And Your years will
have no end.” Heb 13:8, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today,
and forever.” God, and Jesus Christ are changeless in a changing
world! Come and learn more about God, and His changeless attribute. Come

The
Book of Acts
The
book of Acts is the hub of The Bible. Consider what Acts teaches us: (1)
How to Become a Christian. (2) The Evangelistic thrust of the early
church. (3) The spread of Christianity In the first century. (4) The
Beginning of the Christian era.
Come join us at the church of Christ on Pine Study as we study the Book
Of Acts and others. We meet at 9:30AM for worship followed by Bible
Class. We hope to see you Sunday! Look us up on the web at www.churchofchristoroville.com

Mark
13:31
Jesus
said in Mark 13:31, “Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words
will by no means pass away.” That statement was made almost two
thousand years ago, and yet, what Jesus said is true! Today, we have His
word in the Bible. The words of Christ will continue to endure because
He said they would. The church of Christ at 2020 Pine Street strives to
keep our Lord’s words. Please join us for worship and Bible studies.
We meet at 9:30 am on Sundays followed by Bible classes for all ages.

Church
of Christ
The
apostle Paul wrote: All
Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking,
correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the man of God may
be thoroughly equipped for every good work (2 Tim 3:16-17). The
Bible is our authority for Worship, Salvation and how we are to live as
Christians. The Bible is the place where answers can be found in our
struggles on this earth. The Bible has weathered many battles and yet,
it still endures. We follow the Bible, shouldn’t you? Join us for
worship. 2020 Pine Street. 9:30 AM on Sundays.

The Final Word
The author to the book of
Hebrews states: God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in
time past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken
to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom
also He made the worlds (Heb 1:1-2).” The Son, Jesus Christ is the
heir of all things, through which God has spoken to us. The author of
Hebrews is telling the world then, and now that Jesus Christ is The
Final Word! Come Join Us!
Carlos
Aguilar, Evangelist 5-4-2001
Jesus The Peacemaker
The
world around us seems more confused than ever before. Today, all we read
or hear about are the problems that surround us: "balancing the
budget; crime in America; the racial tension in our schools, jobs,
cities; who will lead us into the next century." These are all
problems that our country must come to terms with. But consider for a
moment what The Good News of Jesus Christ can bring to any person.
"For He Himself is our peace, …thus establishing
peace" (Eph 2:14,16). Want to know more? Visit us at 2020 Pine
Street on Sunday morning.

The
Changeless Christ
In
Heb 13:3, the writer says, "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, and
today, yes for evermore." The writer speaks of the changeless
Christ in a changing world. This is the hope for every generation, past,
present, or future. We live in a world of change and confusion. However,
it is refreshing to know that Jesus Christ and His Word will never
change. In reference the consistency of His Word, our Lord also stated,
"Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words shall not pass
away" (Matthew 24:35). Come join us for worship!
Carlos
Aguilar, Evangelist 4-20-2001
One Mediator
The Bible says, "There
is one God, and one mediator between God and man, the man Christ
Jesus" (1 Timothy 2:5). The mediator between two parties must be
equally related to both, so Jesus is both the Son of God and the Son of
man. Jesus
says, "I am the way, and the truth and the life; no one comes to
the Father, but through Me" (John 14:6). It is our purpose at the
church of Christ to approach God directly through the one mediator;
Jesus Christ. Come join us
on Sunday at 9:30 am.
Carlos
Aguilar, Evangelist 4-13-2001
Jesus
is called God
There
is one God (Deuteronomy 6:4). He is expressed in three personalities:
The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Each is called God in the
Bible; but neither is God without consideration of the other two. The
Bible calls Jesus God. "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word
was with God…and the Word was God and the Word became flesh and dwelt
among us" (John 1:1-14). Jesus Himself said: "I and the Father
are one" (John 10:30). Come learn more about God: The Father, The
Son, and The Holy Spirit at the church of Christ.
Carlos
Aguilar, Evangelist 4-6-2001
The Better Way
Finally,
the writer of Hebrews closes out with a “Better Way”, that is of
Faith. God has saved mankind in the same way that is by Grace through
Faith. This is how a man is justified by God (Eph.2:9-10). The writer of
Hebrews exhorts us to the need of faith (11:1,6), and then lists the
example of the faithful men and women in times past. The point of our
writer is to illustrate the Importance of having the Faith that saves
us! Do You?
Come worship with us at 2020 Pine Street, 9:30 AM Sundays.
Carlos
Aguilar, Evangelist 3-30-2001
The
Better Sacrifice
The
Hebrew writer admonishes the futility of the sacrifices of bulls and
goats. In fact: "But in those sacrifices there is a reminder of
sins year by year. For it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats
to take away sins ...since we have confidence to enter the holy place by
the blood of Jesus, by a living way which He inaugurated for us through
the veil, that is His flesh"(10:3,4,19,20). There is no longer any
need for any more sacrifices for our sins. Jesus paid the price by going
to the cross for our sins. Join us for worship.
Carlos
Aguilar, Evangelist 3-23-2001
The
Better Covenant
The
Better Covenant: The thought of Better Things continues in Hebrews, Ch
8: Jesus is the author of a Better Covenant. That is, the Old Testament
and its laws is no longer our guide; it is the New Testament that we are
to follow. Because of His sacrifice He changed the Law by which men are
to follow. In that He says, "A new covenant," He has made the
first obsolete.” (8:13). Jesus Christ is the author of a better
Covenant because He abides as a priest forever and He is unchangeable.
Come learn more about the New Covenant of Jesus Christ at the church of
Christ which meets at 2020 Pine Street.
Carlos
Aguilar, Evangelist 3-16-2001
The
Better Priest
The
Hebrew writer continues to exhort Jesus as The Son of God. In ch. 4 the
subject is Jesus as the better Priest compared to any priest from the
Old Testament. Consider the exhortation concerning Jesus Christ:
"Let us hold fast our confession" (14), “Let us therefore
draw near with confidence to the throne of grace" (16) and, “That
we may receive mercy and may find grace to help in time of need"
(16). Jesus Christ is our helper, strength, and Savior if we will draw
near to Him through obedience of His will! Come Join Us For
Worship.
Carlos
Aguilar, Evangelist 3-9-2001
The
Better Apostle
The
superiority of Jesus Christ to Moses is discussed by the Hebrew writer
in Hebrews 3:1-9. Notice what the writer says about Jesus Christ:
(1) "He was faithful to Him who appointed Him"(2)
"For He has been counted worthy of more glory than Moses"(3)
"For every house is built by someone, but the builder of all things
is God...but Christ was faithful as a Son over His house whose house we
are, if we hold fact our confidence and the boast of our hope firm until
the end"(4,6). The writer is clear that Jesus Christ is one that we
are to be serving today. Are you following Christ? Come learn more about
Him at the church of Christ that meets at 2020 Pine Street. Worship
begins at 9:30 AM Sunday morning. See you there.
Carlos
Aguilar, Evangelist 3-2-2001
The
Better Messenger
The
Book of Hebrews teaches on the "Better Things" concerning
Jesus Christ and what He would have us to do. In fact, the first chapter
of Hebrews is devoted to the Better Messenger: The Son, Jesus Christ.
The writer states: “God, who at various times and in various ways
spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last
days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things,
through whom also He made the worlds” (1:1-2). The writer of the Book
of Hebrews states clearly that we are to listen to the Son of God; that
is Jesus Christ for our rule and guide today. Come learn more about
Jesus Christ, The Son of God at the church of Christ. We meet at 2020
Pine Street with Worship starting at 9:30 followed by Bible classes for
all ages. See you Sunday?
Carlos
Aguilar, Evangelist 2-23-2001
Is Jesus God?
The Gospel of John presents
a clear picture of Jesus Christ, and His work. In addition, John's
gospel presents Jesus Christ, as The Son of God. Therefore, He Is
Divine! Note, the seven I AM's concerning Christ:
- "I
AM the bread of life" (6:35).
- "I
AM the light of the world" (8:12; 9:5).
- "I
AM the door" (10:7).
- "I
AM the good shepherd" (10: 11, 14).
- "I
AM the resurrection and the life" (11:25).
- "I
AM the way, truth, and the life" (14:6).
- "I
AM the true vine"(15:1) (N.T. Survey, Tenney, p. 197).
If
you are genuinely interested in knowing more about Christ and His
attributes we welcome you to come visit us at the church of Christ on
Pine Street.

A
Non-Sectarian Church 2
When
a congregation becomes a sect or a part of a sect, she separates herself
from other Christians. Therefore, we want to avoid this. We are
interested in being a non-sectarian church. What would such a church be
like? A non-sectarian church cannot have a sectarian name. The Lord's
name is not sectarian. Bible names do not separate the children of God
from one another. Other names do. See I
Corinthians 1:10-13. In short, it must be a congregation of people
who are Christians only and who follow the simple pattern for the
church, which is found in the New Testament. The church of Christ, 2020
Pine Street, is determined to be the Lord's non-sectarian church. Come
and help us in this endeavor. We meet at 9:30 AM for worship on Sundays.

A
Non-Sectarian Church
When
a congregation becomes a sect or a part of a sect, she separates herself
from other Christians. Therefore, we want to avoid this. First, we are
interested in being a non-sectarian church. What would such a church be
like? We must have a non-sectarian leader or head. Only one person
qualifies for this position. That person is Jesus Christ, who has been
made "the head over all things to the church" (Ephesians
1:22). Secondly, a non-sectarian book must guide the church. The only
book that is qualified is The Bible. So, let us have no book above the
Bible; no book with the Bible; no book but the Bible. We will continue
these thoughts next week. The church of Christ at 2020 Pine Street is
determined to be the Lord’s non-sectarian church. Come and help us in
this endeavor.

Is
God's Church Invisible?
Bible
students generally admit: There is a Bible church, a divine one, started
by Christ; it is undenominational, having come into being long before
there were denominations; there is but one church in the Bible, and
Christians were not divided into denominations in Bible times; and all
saved people were added to the church when they were saved, as stated in
Acts 2:41,47. All this is admitted. This being true, a local church
should endeavor to follow the Bible pattern, and thus be nothing more or
less than Christ's church in their community, independent of all
denominational organizations and free of all man-made creeds. Each
person should set himself to seek out the Bible church and become a part
of it. Remember, "Seek and you shall find" (Matthew 7:7b).
Come and seek out the church of Christ. 2020 Pine Street.
Our worship begins at 9:30 AM with class at 10:30 AM.

"What
is the Church of Christ?"
People
often ask, "What is the Church of Christ?" We are not
connected with the Christian Scientists, the United Church of Christ or
the Mormons. We are not a part of what is commonly called, "the
Pentecostal movement." We have not written a creed for a church to
go by. There are no organic ties with other Churches of Christ. No
denominational ties whatsoever. On the other hand, this is simply a
congregation of Christians who are nothing but Christians. The likeness
and fellowship you see and others who call themselves churches of Christ
is due to a common desire all of us have to get back to original
Christianity--just like the Bible describes existed in the first
century. Come and serve God with us. We meet at 2020 Pine Street. Call

True
Christian Spirit
“Have
this mind in you which was also in Christ Jesus" (Phil. 2:5). The
spirit of Christ is what the original church sought to emulate. If we
restore the New Testament church in a community, this true Christian
spirit must be one of the major things we determine to restore.
Unselfishness and service are included in the Christian spirit. So is a
readiness to forgive. Also, returning good for evil. Being thoughtful
and helpful and speaking kindly to people are also included. In short,
this is having the mind of Christ. This spirit of truth with restoration
of the New Testament church and Bible teaching all go hand-in-hand. We
of the church of Christ do not claim to be perfect by any means, but we
are striving to restore the original Christianity of the Bible. We
believe you will find a love for the Lord, love for people, love for
truth. Come Worship with us. 533-0128.

Not
Good Enough to go to Church?
Have
you thought you would feel like a hypocrite if you attended church? The
true Christian is quick to tell you he/she is not “perfect.” The
true Christian does not have a "holier than thou" attitude.
True Christians know that they are saved by the grace of God. They
realize that the Bible says, "If we say we have no sin, we deceive
ourselves, and the truth is not in us" (1 John 1:9). Furthermore,
the true Christian knows that they can (and do) fall short of the glory
of God's grace. Therefore, they must rely on God's forgiveness and His
Word that brings comfort and encouragement. The
Bible teaches that God hates sin, but loves the sinner. Come learn more
about God's saving grace through faith at the church of Christ, 2020

1 Corinthians 1:10-13
10 Now I plead with you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.
11 For it has been declared to me concerning you, my brethren, by those of Chloe's household, that there are contentions among you.
12 Now I say this, that each of you says, "I am of Paul," or "I am of Apollos," or "I am of Cephas," or "I am of Christ."
13 Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Or were you baptized in the name of Paul?
