BE GOOD TO
YOURSELF
Many
times we hurt the ones nearest to us. Most of the time it is a reaction
to how we feel about ourselves. So, how do we learn the art of being
good to ourselves?
Humble yourself – until you realize your lowly position before
God you cannot start the process of change. Matt 5:3 says, “Blessed
are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven".
Being poor in spirit is to be humble. By submitting to God’s will you
can tap into the guidance necessary to happy here on this earth. Join us
for worship at 9:30 AM.

A
MERRY HEART
Solomon
wrote: "A merry heart does good, like a medicine" (Pr
17:22). We live in a world of pressures and turmoil. So, how can a
person learn how to be happy in this world?
The
answer: Think
positively, think soberly, and think on things above (heaven). The
measure of a man is in his thoughts. "For as he thinks in his
heart, so he is" (Pro.23:7). How and what do you think about,
as you toil through the day?
The
church of Christ meets at 2020 Pine Street for worship at 9:30 AM,
followed by Bible classes for all ages.

MORE HAPPINESS
This
life has no promises except death and taxes. Let me continue with a few
more suggestions on how we may live a happier life on this earth. They
are: give generously - giving of your: time, talents, and money will
bring great joy. Work with the right motives. Be interested in others.
Make the most of today. Stay close to God - James 4:7,8. We at the
church of Christ would Ike to help you find happiness through Jesus
Christ. We meet at 2020 Pine St. for worship at 9:30 AM followed by
Bible classes for all ages.

HAPPINESS
Solomon
wrote: "A joyful heart is good medicine, but a broken spirit
dries up the bones" (Proverbs 17:22). Is happiness missing in
your life? Let me suggest some guidelines for living a healthier and
happier life: live a simple life, be moderate and temperate in your
lifestyle. Spend less than you earn. Think constructively (Proverbs
23:7). Cultivate a flexible disposition. Be grateful. Rule your moods.
We at the church of Christ would like to help you find happiness through
Jesus Christ. We meet at 2020 Pine Street. Sunday Worship-9:30 AM with
classes immediately following. Wednesday evening class is at 7:00 PM.

DISCIPLINE IN
EFFECTIVE FAMILIES
If families are going to
make it in this world; then parents must learn the art of discipline in
the home. Effective families are so because they have learned the art of
effective discipline. Discipline is effective when: provides structure
and boundaries, avoids heavy-handed punishment moving from the external
to the internal (self-discipline). Listen to Solomon: "The rod and
reproof give wisdom, but a child who gets his own way brings shame to
his mother...Correct your son, and he will give you comfort"
(Proverbs 29:15,17). Learn with us at 2020 Pine St on Sunday’s
beginning at 9:30 AM.

THE
IMPORTANCE OF FATHERS
Just
what does a good father bring to his family? Consider the following:
Protection, moral leadership, affection, and confirmation of God’s
plan for families.
More could be said, but the point is: A father in the home is a
key to the home staying together. Solomon wrote: "When I was a son
to my father, tender and the only son in the sight of my mother, then he
taught me" (Proverbs 4:3,4). Solomon knew the importance of having
a father that took time out for his family. Come learn more about the
family at the church of Christ. 2020 Pine St

THE
IMPORTANCE OF MOTHERS
Solomon
wrote, "Hear my
son, your father's instruction, and do not forsake your mothers
teaching" (Prov 1:8). Just
what do effective Mothers supply? Consider some of the following:
Relationships
- Mom is the family switchboard, encouragement and support, strength,
power, grit, courage, and fortitude. Mother's are the emotional hub of
the home. Read the book of Proverbs and you will see the importance of
the home and the influence of a Mother. Join us for lessons from the
Bible. 2020 Pine Street.

CHURCH
OF CHRIST
The
Gospel of John presents a clear picture of Jesus Christ, and His work.
In addition, John's gospel presents Jesus Christ, as The Son of God.
Therefore, He Is Divine!
Note,
the seven I AM's concerning Christ: I AM the bread of life (6:35), the light of the world"
(8:12;9:5), the door (10:7), the good shepherd (10: 11, 14), the
resurrection and the life (11:25), the way, truth, and the life (14:6),
and the true vine"(15:1). What do you think of this One called
Jesus Christ? We are the church of Christ that meets at 2020 Pine St.

HYPOCRITES
Have
you thought you would feel like a hypocrite if you attended church? At
the church of Christ there are many different kinds of people. In fact,
the true Christian is quick to tell you he is not an angel or does he
have a "holier than thou" attitude. True Christians know that
they are saved by grace through faith. They realize that the Bible says,
"If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is
not in us" (1 John 1:9). Join us for worship and find out about
true Christianity.

TRAITS OF
SUCCESSFUL PARENTING
"The decline of the
nuclear family is the single greatest threat to America's mental
health" (Amer. Psy. Assoc.,
March 19,1991). Do you believe this
statement? I do. We can trace all of our problems in this country back
to the home. If this nation of ours is to turn itself around then it
must begin with the home. Consider three common traits found in
successful parenting: they believe In parenting, they have a commitment
to harmony, and they don't give up. The best book on parenting is The
Bible. Join us on Sunday for worship. 533-0128.

CLOSE KNIT FAMILY
Our
nation is as strong as our home! What kind of foundation are you
building for your family? Consider the characteristics of strong
families found by the human development department, at the University of
Nebraska. They are: appreciation and affection being expressed, family
time together, good communication patterns, a strong sense of
commitment, a high degree of religious orientation and the ability to
deal with crisis in a positive manner. Your family will as strong as the
foundation.
The foundation must be on The Rock, Jesus Christ.
Come visit us at the church of Christ on Pine Street.

FATHER'S
BLESSINGS
"The
blessings of your father.”
This quote is taken from Genesis 49:26, where Jacob pronounces a
blessing to all of his sons. The Patriarchs of old knew how much a
blessing meant to a child. Oh, how this is needed today! If more fathers
spoke words of high value and had an unconditional love for their
children just think how better off our children would be!
Fathers bless your children and build memories while you can.
Ephesians 6:4: "And fathers, do not provoke your children to anger;
but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord."
Carlos
Aguilar, Evangelist 5-18-2002
HOW
TO RUIN YOUR KIDS
We
live in a fast-paced world. Our children are faced with more and more
challenges everyday. As a parent, we only want the very best for
children, but are we really helping them? Consider this prescription for
ruining your children: Teach them that money buys happiness, don't give
them any responsibility, and let them know spiritual things are
insignificant. Success is made by following the Lord’s
will:…”bring them (children) up in the training and admonition of
the Lord” (Eph 6:4). Join us for worship and Bible study or on the web

MARRIAGE
Marriage
is a Divine Institution from God, for humankind, for the purpose of
comfort, pleasure, and preservation of children. In addition, marriage
is made up of a union of one man and one woman. Furthermore, in Gen
2:24, it is written: "For this cause a man shall leave his father
and mother, and shall cleave to his wife… When two people fail to
"leave and cleave," a marriage will have problems. Marriage
means cutting "the apron strings" if you are to have the type
of marriage that God has designed. Join us for worship and study.

ROLE MODEL
Do
you have a role model? What do role models look like? Consider this,
fifty years ago the parents were the number one role model(s] for our
children. Today, fifty years later The parents ranked twenty-fourth as
role models. Our children need healthy, positive role models. The home
and parents can and should become a child's role model--children will
always imitate what they see in their parents! Are you setting a good
example for your children? The church of Christ is devoted to helping
you understand your role as a parent and more importantly as a
Christian.
Carlos
Aguilar, Evangelist 4-6-2002
PARENTING
The
Bible states: “…bring them (children) up in the training and admonition
of the Lord (Eph 6:4). What kind of parent should we be? Consider these
four styles: Negligent (No guidance and little interest in the child),
Permissive (Lack of boundaries in the lives of our children),
Authoritarian (Enforced obedience, rigid guidelines in the home) and
Authoritative (A parent that is Firm, yet Fair). If our children are to
grow into a functional adult, it is clear that the
"authoritative" parenting style is the choice for raising
healthy children. Parents, which style of leadership are you teaching
your children?
Carlos
Aguilar, Evangelist 3-16-2002
PEER
PRESSURE
Our
children are facing issues of life that many of us did not have to deal
with in school. When we think of "peer pressure," we also
think about role models. Who is your child's role model? Consider Daniel
of the OT. He had to deal with wine or strong drink and peer pressure
from the King who had taken him into captivity. Daniel "made up his
mind that he would not defile himself with the king's food or wine"
(Daniel 1:8). In short, one might say that Daniel withstood the fire.

"SEMPER
FIDELIS"
"Semper Fidelis":
is a Latin phrase meaning, "Always Faithful." These words are
the motto of The United States Marine Corps. The motto has a deep, rich
tradition, which has been a part of The Corps since it’s beginning.
The same can be said of Christians. We too should carry the motto:
"Semper Fidelis." Paul writes, "I have fought the good
fight…finished the course…kept the faith; in the future there is
laid up for me the crown of righteousness….” (2Tim 4:7-8). We at the
church of Christ are seeking that faithful service to our Lord. We meet
at 2020 Pine Street. 533-0128

FAITH IS THE VICTORY
Everyone
wants victory. The word is synonymous with success in any field.
Whatever we undertake to do, we can be sure of opposition. If we succeed
in anything that is worthwhile, we can say we have a victory. The same
can be said of our faith. Without faith, there could be no hope: without
hope there is no urge to endeavor: without endeavor there is no victory.
"For whosoever is born of God overcomes the world; and this is the
victory that has overcome the world, even our faith" (1 John 5:4).

Carlos
Aguilar, Evangelist 2-16-2002
FAITH IS THE VICTORY
Over
what does faith give victory? John said it overcomes the world.
Opposition was great for those who lived the Christian life 2000 years
ago. Swords, stones, imprisonment awaited those who confessed Jesus as
the Christ. Their only defense was the "shield of faith", but
they won the victory! Force may kill people, but it cannot destroy
principles. Faith is spiritual is a force not material. The spiritual
things will continue when all of the material things decay. "Not by
might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, says Jehovah of hosts"
(Zech. 4:6). Visit us Sunday 9:30 AM. 533-0128

THE
POWER OF CHRIST
The
Gospel of John is written for the purpose of having faith in Jesus, The
Christ. The miracles recorded in John's gospel attest to the power of
God, through, His Son. Seven miracles in John show the power of Christ:
The changing of water into wine-Quality, the healing of the Nobleman's
Son-Space, the Healing of the Impotent Man (5:1-9)-Time, the feeding of
the five thousand-Quantity, the walking on the water-Natural Law, the
healing of the blind man-Misfortune, and the raising of Lazarus-Death.

2002
2002
has finally arrived or should I say 2001 went really fast. Most of try
to improve ourselves in many ways day by day, for those in search of
spiritual improvement we can help. What I should really say is God can
help. Those who ask, seek, and knock will be given, will find, and will
have the door opened (Mt 7:7-8). Join us for worship and Bible study.

1 Corinthians 1:10-13
10 Now I plead with you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.
11 For it has been declared to me concerning you, my brethren, by those of Chloe's household, that there are contentions among you.
12 Now I say this, that each of you says, "I am of Paul," or "I am of Apollos," or "I am of Cephas," or "I am of Christ."
13 Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Or were you baptized in the name of Paul?
