Is a Real, Literal Place
Wicked
shall go into punishment. . . Mt 25:31-46
31
But when the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the angels
with him, then shall he sit on the throne of his glory: 32 and
before him shall be gathered all the nations: and he shall separate
them one from another, as the shepherd separateth the sheep from the
goats; 33 and he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the
goats on the left. 34 Then shall the King say unto them on his right
hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared
for you from the foundation of the world: 35 for I was hungry, and
ye gave me to eat; I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink; I was a
stranger, and ye took me in; 36 naked, and ye clothed me; I was
sick, and ye visited me; I was in prison, and ye came unto me. 37
Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee
hungry, and fed thee? or athirst, and gave thee drink? 38 And when
saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed
thee? 39 And when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto
thee? 40 And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say
unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it unto one of these my brethren,
(even) these least, ye did it unto me. 41 Then shall he say also
unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into the
eternal fire which is prepared for the devil and his angels: 42 for
I was hungry, and ye did not give me to eat; I was thirsty, and ye
gave me no drink; 43 I was a stranger, and ye took me not in; naked,
and ye clothed me not; sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not.
44 Then shall they also answer, saying, Lord, when saw we thee
hungry, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison,
and did not minister unto thee? 45 Then shall he answer them,
saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not unto one of
these least, ye did it not unto me. 46 And these shall go away into
eternal punishment: but the righteous into eternal life. (ASV)
Shall
go into fire. . . Mk 9:43-48 43
And if thy hand cause thee to stumble, cut it off: it is good for
thee to enter into life maimed, rather than having thy two hands to
go into hell, into the unquenchable fire. 44 (where their worm dieth
not, and the fire is not quenched.) 45 And if thy foot cause thee to
stumble, cut it off: it is good for thee to enter into life halt,
rather than having thy two feet to be cast into hell. 46 (where
their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.) 47 And if thine
eye cause thee to stumble, cast it out: it is good for thee to enter
into the kingdom of God with one eye, rather than having two eyes to
be cast into hell; 48 where their worm dieth not, and the fire is
not quenched. (ASV)
In
hell he lifted up his eyes. . . Lk 16:19-31 19
Now there was a certain rich man, and he was clothed in purple and
fine linen, faring sumptuously every day: 20 and a certain beggar
named Lazarus was laid at his gate, full of sores,
21 and desiring to be fed with the (crumbs) that fell from the rich
man's table; yea, even the dogs came and licked his sores. 22 And it
came to pass, that the beggar died, and that he was carried away by
the angels into Abraham's bosom: and the rich man also died, and was
buried. 23 And in Hades he lifted up his eyes, being in torments,
and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. 24 And he
cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus,
that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue;
for I am in anguish in this flame. 25 But Abraham said, Son,
remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and
Lazarus in like manner evil things: but now here he is comforted,
and thou art in anguish. 26 And besides all this, between us and you
there is a great gulf fixed, that they that would pass from hence to
you may not be able, and that none may cross over from thence to us.
27 And he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest
send him to my father's house; 28 for I have five brethren; that he
may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of
torment. 29 But Abraham saith, They have Moses and the prophets; let
them hear them. 30 And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one go
to them from the dead, they will repent. 31 And he said unto him, If
they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be
persuaded, if one rise from the dead. (ASV)

members of the church. . . 2 Pet 2: 4, 20-22 4
For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to
hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved
unto judgment; 5 And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the
eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood
upon the world of the ungodly; 6 And turning the cities of Sodom and
Gomorrha into ashes condemned them with an overthrow, making them an
ensample unto those that after should live ungodly; (KJV) . . .
20 For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world
through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are
again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with
them than the beginning. 21 For it had been better for them not to
have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it,
to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them. 22 But it is
happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned
to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing
in the mire. (KJV)
